Getting around London

After a day of delays, I was finally able to get up early and get to see more of London. While my feet are hurting and my back is aching, I feel as if there is still so much more to see in this great city. Here is how I spent my first full day in England's capital.

9:30am:  I had a quick bite to eat and a few cups of coffee in the restaurant at my hotel to give me the fuel I would need to attempt to cover as much as I had planned today.

London Underground aka the Tube

11:27am: Hopped onto the London Underground, which as many of you is such a great way to get around the city. I can not stress how important it is to pick up a Visitor Oysters Card when using mass transit in London.

Bacon and Monterey Jack cheese burger and fries with a Brooklyn Lager. Cheers!

12:41pm: Believe it or not that quick breakfast did not do me justice, so I stopped off at a great restaurant in Hoxton Square called oddly enough Hoxford Square Bar and Kitchen. The decor was very cool with posters and pictures with such racy quotes on them that I am unable to type it here. But the vibe at this eatery is very laid back and comfortable. I went with the Flamin' 8 Beef Burger with bacon and Monterey Jack cheese and a Brooklyn Lager. Yes I ordered a beer that is made 10 minutes from my apartment back in New York while in London.

Nat Finkelstein exhibition was excellent.

2:02pm: Sticking with the New York in London theme, just a short walk away was an exhibition dedicated to a Brooklyn born artist. Nat Finkelstein was a world famous photojournalist, political activist, fugitive and veteran of the 1960s New York scene. His work is on display at the Idea Generation Media Centre. His work was outstanding and Nat Finkelstein: From One Extreme to the Other is definitely something to check out in London through February 14.

3:28pm: En route to my next stop on my tour of London, I stumbled upon Brick Lane. Nicknamed "Banglatown", this long passageway is filled with not such food from Bangladesh, but also a plethora of Indian, Thai and Pan Asian cuisine. If you like it spicy and you dig curry, then chances are you will love Brick Lane.

Pathway to the Tower Bridge

4:11pm:  One of my favorite attractions to see in person is famous architecture. Well one of London's most famed pieces of work has to be the Tower Bridge. This 116 steel suspension structure (which often gets confused with neighboring London Bridge) was a sight to see as I walked toward it. The madness of the bridge comes complete with tourist (including yours truly) snapping pics, business men and women pushing their way to get home and cars and buses beeping their horns.

9:15pm: I met up with some friends for a late dinner at a very cool place called Bistrotheque. Located inside of a converted warehouse on a desolate side street, this eatery had a pretty creative and sophisticated menu with a French and English influence. I tried the roasted quail with apples, bacon and cashews for a starter followed by a half roast chicken and a variety of vegetables. There are three areas to choose from when walking into this Wadeson Street location - the Napolean Bar, the Cabarat Event Room and the actual restaurant.

11:01pm-???am: I finished this busy day in London with a few nightcaps at two very bars called Trafik and 333 Mother. The crowd here was intense and pretty rowdy. It was like the cast of the Jersey Shore mixed with the 80s Euro punk scene. Definitely an interesting scene to say the least!

I was definitely able to cram a lot into one day in London. But you will have three days to venture around England if you win our great prize. So for today's question, and your final opportunity to be placed into the drawing for the grand prize, what are you looking to do if you we pick you to go on a "Long Weekend in London"?

I'll be back over the weekend for updates on my trip through London. Also be sure to check back Saturday for a complete list of the ten names that will compete for a chance at winning their very own "Long Weekend in London."

Thursday's winners: The two entrants chosen from Thursday's article are  Cameron Scherer & Hannah Volfson. You are both now entered into the grand prize drawing on Tuesday February 2 for the "Long Weekend in London."
