On our way to Sesame Street

On our way to Sesame Street

In honor of Sesame Street’s impressive 40 years on the air, we thought it would be a great idea to pack up and take a road trip to celebrate. So here at CheapOair we got some recommendations from a few characters located on the most popular street in America. These are destinations that even Oscar the Grouch would enjoy.

Cookie Monster: A certain blue haired monster gave us this great tip about a factory tour in Salt Lake City, Utah that gives you a free cookie when visiting. The Mrs. Fields Factory Tour, which begins and ends at the local outlet store, will leave you and your cookie loving friends in awe. One highlight of the tour includes checking out the impressive 20,000 square foot freezer. Tours are only given by appointment on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9am-11am and 1pm-3pm. 1717 South 4800 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. 801-412-8727. mrsfields.com

Big Bird: It is no surprise that Big Bird loves to take a vacation just like the rest of us. When the big yellow guy needs to getaway from the hustle and bustle of Sesame Street, he heads to the World Bird Sanctuary. Located about 32 miles outside of St. Louis, Missouri, the WBS is both an entertaining and educational experience for travelers of all ages.

This remarkable attraction offers a truly unique wildlife experience throughout its massive 305 acre facility. They takes care of over 200 animals here and is the perfect destination for nature lovers. The World Bird Sanctuary is open daily year-round from 8am-5pm (closed Thanksgiving & Christmas). 125 Bald Eagle Ridge Road, Valley Park, Missouri 63088. 636-861-3225. worldbirdsanctuary.org

Grover: Did you know that Grover’s birthday is October 14? Yeah, me neither. But the lovable character reminded us at CheapOair over and over again that we forgot to send him a gift. So to make up for that blunder, we asked him what his favorite destination was to visit away from Sesame Street and he chose…Las Vegas?! Although he is not old enough to gamble at the tables, the furry and blue guy always stops by Sin City’s popular Neon Museum.

This self guided tour, located on Las Vegas Boulevard & Freemont Street, offers visitors a unique look at many past signs that once stood proud along the infamous Strip. Since this is indeed Las Vegas, the tour is available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Intersection of Las Vegas Blvd. and Fremont Street, Las Vegas, Nevada 89101. 702-387-NEON (6366). neonmuseum.org

Elmo: No Sesame Street style road trip would be complete without stopping by an entire theme park dedicated to the world’s most popular muppets. Elmo insisted that we add Sesame Place, located about 30-minutes from Philadelphia. The park offers a variety of rides, water attractions, and shows appropriate for young travelers. Sesame Place is open May through October with various hours throughout the season. 100 Sesame Road, Langhorne, Pennsylvania 19047. 215-752-7070. sesameplace.com
