United Airlines Celebrates 85th Anniversary with Retro Livery

United unveiled the retro Friend Ship livery yesterday
 

Yesterday United Airlines celebrated its 85th Anniversary at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

 

Hundreds of past and present United employees were on hand for the occasion as the airline showed off a special throwback livery to celebrate.

 

The old school “Friend Ship” livery was voted on by United employees late last year. The unique Airbus A320 will soon fly throughout United's North American routes. 

 

Today one of the world’s largest airlines, United’s history winds all the way back to 1926 when it delivered mail under the “Varney Air Service” name. It began operations as United Airlines two years later in 1928.
