Travel Shot: German Sinkhole

A giant sinkhole gobbled up part of a residential street in central Germany Monday.

 

Residents were evacuated from 23 nearby buildings due to concerns that it would spread and possibly engulf more of the neighborhood. Fortunately no one was injured.

 

The cause of the sinkhole is still unknown as of this post, but according to media reports, the Thuringia mining authority believes it occurred naturally.  

 

Earlier this year a sinkhole in Guatemala City swallowed an entire building.
