Top Winter Festivals and Events in Montreal, Flickr: art_inthecity

2010 Shot of Montreal En Lumiere in Action!

Montreal is a city that is as well known for its festivals as for its food. Winter is a time of celebration in the city, with several festivals dedicated to the fine art of exhibiting the great beauty of the snow. Here are some you may want to check out if you’re in the city.

Snow Village (January 4 through March 24, 2013)

From the ice hotel to heated spas and snow igloos, Snow Village is definitely an aspect of Montreal that you don’t want to miss. The construction of the village occurs once the weather becomes chilly, and this year’s weather was created in December. The idea of creating a snow village occurred in Finland, and the Canadians have been doing a great job replicating it ever since. The village includes a fully functional hotel, ice bar, restaurant, snow labyrinth, slide and replicas of familiar buildings.

Montreal En Lumiere (Montreal in Lights; February 21 to March 3, 2013)

Montreal En Lumiere is one of the world’s largest winter festivals, and draws an annual audience of nearly a million fans. You’ll get an opportunity to see world class performing artists, cuisine, free outdoor family activities, and more. Fine dining gives you the opportunity to meet chefs from Buenos Aires and more. You can purchase tickets in many locations or by visiting the site.

Montreal Restaurant Week

Known by two names in Montreal (Taste MTL, and Old Montreal’s Le Happening Gourmand), Montreal Restaurant Week features over 100 restaurants eager to win your taste buds, and offering delicious menus at a fraction of the price. From January 10 to February 3, Le Happening Gourmand is on tap, and a great and delicious reason to visit Montreal. Some extremely well-known restaurants are on tap, and offering three-course dinner menus for as low as $27.
