Mexico Hotels Offer Fun and Unusual Perks, Flickr: corsinet

Beach Palace Resort

Hotels are the new creative. From field trips for kids to free mini bars, they are upping the ante when it comes to out of the box experiences. If you’re traveling to Mexico, you’ll discover that resorts and luxury hotels are offering some pretty impressive perks to butter up the crowd. Here are a few I found fun and unusual.

Unlimited Long Distance Calls: The richest man in the world is Carlos Slim, and with good reason. At Palace Resorts, for instance, guests can enjoy unlimited long distance calls to the US and Canada. This is because the resort recently announced a new multi-year contract with Telmex, Latin America’s largest telecommunications provider. One option? The adults-only Sun Palace resort in Cancun. Now, there’s no excuse not to call your mom or dad to tell them of your safe arrival.

BOGO: Some hotels offer the sweet perk of getting an additional night’s stay –completely gratis. At Rancho Pescadro luxury hotels, if you book four nights as part of their “Endless Summer Special,” you get the fifth night free. Others may have this option, so inquire!

Concierge Services on the Beach: At the La Amada Hotel in Cancun, Mexico, for example, guests can enjoy the set up of a free sofa bed on the sand until early evening. Concierge services are not just for the privileged—so out of the box requests are a-okay!

Healthy Mini Bars: At many of the Hyatt Hotels, the mini bars are sparse, allowing guests to stock up on whatever items they prefer. Some hotel chains like the Kimpton Hotels give coupons towards mini bars. The trend of the Pringles-filled minibars is slowly changing towards healthier snacks like granola bars and juices.

Allergy-Free and Scented Pillows: More hotels, like the Westin chain, are offering “Pure” rooms that are allergy free, and will offer specialized pillows with aromatherapy or options that are completely fragrance free. You don’t have to reach for that Kleenex next time you visit a hotel!

What’s your favorite hotel perk?
