"A Great Way to Keep Fit and to Boost Flexibility"

London five star luxury hotel, The Berkeley, has teamed up with award-winning synchronized swimming team, Aquabatix, to host weekly 90-minute master classes all through the month of July in the hotel's open-air pool featuring panoramic views over Hyde Park.

A great way to keep fit and to boost flexibility and agility, synchronized swimming offers an artistic way to give muscles throughout the body a proper work out. During the classes, swimmers will learn several key skills including the “egg beater kick” – a form of treading water that allows for stability and height above the water while leaving the hands free to perform strokes and “sculling” – hand movements used to propel the body which are the most essential part to synchronized swimming. The session is completed with a choreographed routine with accompanying music.

“Our team is so proud to show off their skills in what must be London’s most glamorous pool, and we can’t wait to teach Londoners and guests at The Berkeley all about the ‘egg-beater kick’ and ‘sculling’!” says Aquabatix director, Katie Fried.

Each class will begin with the Aquabatix team showcasing one of their award-winning routines, after which attendees will enter the water to learn some of the key movements. By the end of the class, the group will be able to perform a complete routine.

Aquabatix is a team of professional synchronized swimmers who perform aquatic shows for event entertainment, using their skills to provide instructional services for groups and individuals to learn the sport. All members of the team are former international competitors, making Aquabatix unique and the only company of its kind in Europe.

A first for London, the Berkeley synchronized swimming master classes in partnership with Aquabatix will be available to guests and non-guests alike every Wednesday in July (the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th). Classes are priced at £125 (just under $200) per person and will last 90 minutes. The classes take place between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. and attendees will be provided with Berkeley swimming caps to take home.

The Berkeley is located at the corner of Wilton Place and Knightsbridge, overlooking Hyde Park and is home to London’s only rooftop health club and spa on the eighth floor. On sunny days, the roof retracts with the push of a button creating an “ultimate Roman-style outdoor swimming pool.”
