Now App Let's You Know What Events Are Trending

See What's Trending in London with Now!

There are all kinds of ways to find out what’s going on in a city you’re visiting, and there’s a new one for the photo-oriented, iPhone crowd.

A new and free iPhone app, Now, analyzes photos about events that have been posted on various social media networks and determines from the photo outpouring which events “are trending right now,” the company says.

So if you download the app, you can view photos from regular folks of popular events taking place in New York, San Francisco, Paris and London.

If you select New York, you’ll view a Google Map with red pins and when you click on a pin, you’ll see dozens of images from the Mermaid Ball at Bowery Ballroom on Delancey Street in Manhattan, for example.

Tap over to San Francisco and you can scroll through photos of what’s going on at the Biergarten or the Union Street Festival.

If there is an event photo you really like and want to share with the world -- or at least your friends -- you can tweet, text or email it.

The app, developed by Ben Cera, will optionally detect your location and send you push notifications about trending events nearby.

If you don’t give permission for the notifications, then some of the events may be over by the time you see the photos.

The information under each image is basically a photo caption so the details about the events can be scant.

“Walking around the Union Street Festival,” reads a photo caption showing two women at the gathering.

But, if you are the type of traveler who wants to know what’s hot and popular in the city you are checking out, the Now app may point you to some possibilities.

And, after all, dozens of photos about an event must be worth more than 1,000 words.
