A drive thru wedding chapel? Only in Las Vegas

The wedding industry in Las Vegas is planning for an astronomical day of marriages on Nov. 11, 2011 as people from all over the world head to the town to tie the knot.

Aside from the kitsch of getting married on a special day, each year couples hop on flights to Las Vegas to exchange their vows. Thanks to the easy-access to marriage licenses, the fun of a destination wedding in town, and the chapels and hotels offering everything from a drive through to all-out extravagance, Las Vegas is one of the top destinations in the world to get married.

Nearly every hotel on- and off-Strip offers wedding planning packages. But, for those who want to have a true Vegas-style wedding, head to any of these chapels.

Most Outrageous Chapel: Viva Las Vegas has it all. The chapel offers traditional weddings, but its list of themed weddings is what sets it apart. It’s got Elvis Presley, who pulls up in a 1955 pink Cadillac. Then, it’s got a variety of other options for weddings including: Egyptian, Viking, Dracula, Gangster, Pirate, Rocky Horror, Woodstock … essentially a theme for any couple looking for something entirely different than the normal white dress and tux. It even offers a variety of reception styles to give the couple and guests something to remember forever.

Least Expensive Wedding: While it’s not a chapel, the cheapest option to get married in Las Vegas is a simple visit to the Clark County Clerks office. It’s a cool $60 and there is no blood test required. Just head over there with the proper identification, get your license, and then get married. Save time and fill out the application online. If you want something a little more formal, many of the chapels offer basic packages that start around $200.

Historic Chapel: Little Chapel of the West is the oldest wedding chapel in Las Vegas. Listed in the National Registry of Historical Places, couples began getting married at this quaint chapel in 1942. It has been witness to “I dos” for a wide range of celebrities including Judy Garland, Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere, and Angelina Joile and Billy Bob Thornton. While little things have been replaced, the chapel still maintains much of the original touches, including the pews and Victorian lamps.

Drive-Thru: Like Elvis, nothing screams Vegas Wedding like getting married at a chapel drive-thru. The Little White Wedding Chapel has the Tunnel of Love Drive-Thru, which has an awning painted with cherubs and stars. Currently, the chapel is even offering a special -- $40 to drive thru and get married.

Award-Winning Elegance: The Chapel of the Flowers is one of the most recognized chapels in Las Vegas – and with good reason. It has been named the “Best Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for two consecutive years. It was a 2011 pick from The Knot for best weddings and earned the 2011 Wedding Wire “Bride’s Choice.” An oasis on The Strip, this chapel transports couples to a romantic enclave and creates traditional and elegant weddings that can fit any budget.
