The "heart of Times Square" now has new meaning (CC Flickr photo credit: Gary McCabe)
The "heart of Times Square" now has new meaning

Visitors boarding flights to New York City this month will find Times Square decked out for Valentine’s Day. After spending the day taking advantage of New York’s plentiful romantic options, couples can head to Times Square to visit a giant “beating” heart suspended in a glass cube.

According to a report from Huffington Post, the unique sculpture consists of 400 transparent LED tubes. Thanks to a system of heat sensors, the more visitors that touch, hug, or kiss near the heart, the faster it begins to beat.

The sculpture was created by architectural firm BIG, which sought to capture what Times Square is all about: people and light. The heart will be on display through the end of February.
