The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles is getting a new director. The Australian Timothy Potts, “an expert in ancient art,” has directed museums in England, the U.S. and Australia, and will take up the position on September 1.

Potts will oversee “two huge, architecturally impressive museum campuses,” both at The Getty Center in Los Angeles and the Getty Villa at Malibu.

A “unique combination of institutions that together cover more of the intellectual and technical and historical aspects of our history than any other place in the world,” Potts plans on expanding the already-impressive collection, and continuing to promote art and culture to the public.

Previously, Potts was a director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, where he reportedly “expanded and upgraded its exhibition program,” leading to increased attendance, sponsorships and donations.

Visitors on cheap flights to California should check out either location most convenient to them – The Getty Center campus features European works ranging from paintings to drawings and sculpture, while the Getty Villa campus contains more than 1,200 ancient Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiques.
