The 'Mob' to take the Spotlight in Vegas!

The venue will be mobbed on Valentine’s Day.

And, I’m not necessarily talking about the turnout because Feb. 14, 2012, marks the opening of The Mob Museum, a 41,000 square-foot facility located in a former U.S. Post Office and federal courthouse in Las Vegas.

The museum, which hopes to portray both sides of the law enforcement-organized crime, decades-old confrontation, should be notable based on the high-tech approach it takes to the sometimes-ongoing and bloody duel.

The museum houses at least a dozen exhibits, ranging from “The Legacy of the Mob” to “Sin City” and “The Game Continues,” and many of them are interactive.

For example, if you fly book a flight to Las Vegas and drop by The Mob Museum, then you should be able to test your mettle at FBI weapons training, listen to the bureau eavesdropping on historic mob figures using wiretapping equipment, and even shoot at a target using a simulated tommy gun.

From Al -- I mean, Alphonse – Capone to Boston’s recently apprehended Whitey Bulger, you should be able to get a beat on organized crime figures and their law enforcement pursuers past and present.

And, also on the tech front, there are interactive touch screens throughout the exhibits. (If you don’t know how to use them -- your kids certainly will.)

The Mob Museum will be open seven days per week: the hours are Sundays to Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission is $18 for adults age 18 and up; $12 for children 5 to 17 years old; and $14 for seniors, soldiers, law enforcement personnel and teachers.

There apparently is no discount for mobsters.
