Although it’s not officially winter yet, many destinations have already had their first big snowfalls. With so many travel deals during the holidays, it’s a great time to take a winter retreat.

As such, enjoy a winter retreat in one of the coziest winter destinations on the east coast in Asheville. You’ll find five reasons below to take a jaunt to Asheville this winter.

Skiing: Asheville is a great winter destination for the snow activities you can enjoy nearby. It’s a little warmer than your typical ski destination, making it an afternoon or evening of skiing much more comfortable. There are several slopes within a 30-minute or hour drive.

Asheville Brewing Company: The Asheville Brewing Company got some things right that most other restaurants haven’t. They decided to put great pizza, microbrews, and movies together into one place. Featuring a huge movie theater, guests can watch a flick while enjoying one of ABC’s on-site brews and eating their pizza, which is one of the best in Asheville.

Christmas at the Biltmore House: Asheville is one of the best cities to enjoy the holidays and there’s no better place to enjoy it in Asheville than at the Biltmore House. One of the largest and most beautiful mansions in the world, the Biltmore House lights up this time of year and is a spectacle at the holidays.

Asheville Arts: Asheville is one of the best cities on the east coast for their fine arts. During the course of a year you’ll find a wide-range of events in Asheville, from their famous film festival, to music festivals, to art gallery walks, to theatre. The winter is some of the best time for their theatre performances, when there are a variety of holiday shows playing at theaters throughout the Asheville area.

Grove Park Inn: Asheville isn’t where you can expect very many resorts, but the one resort it does have, is one of the most renowned in the U.S. Situated on one of the many mountains surrounding Asheville, the view from the inn is spectacular. It provides a nice mountain retreat for visitors, with its own restaurant and a spa, but is just a short drive to downtown Asheville.
