Five Natural Attractions for Families to See in Cabo San Lucas, Flickr: tanenhaus

Chileno Beach

Located at the south tip of the Baja Californian peninsula, Cabo San Lucas is a thriving city. However, modern buildings aside, it has several natural attractions that lend an educational component to your visit—so that it’s not all bars and nightlife all the time. It is renowned for its breathtaking beaches and scuba diving.

Here are some natural attractions worth checking out.

El Arco: By far one of the most popular natural landmarks in the area, this rock formation is also a whale-watching and snorkeling spot. Rising majestically out of the ocean, the natural arch is best seen at sunrise and sunset and lends itself to those priceless photo moments. Here, the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez.

Chileno Beach: This natural attraction is known for its turquoise waters and a good snorkeling and swimming area. Also known as Playa Chileno, its perfect setting is on the Sea of Cortez side, and is a popular hangout with the locals. What you’ll find: a grove of palm trees, water sports equipment rentals (kayaks and snorkeling equipment), and shower facilities.

Land’s End (Finisterra): This is the southernmost tip of Baja California, where the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez meet. It is also known for its geological formulations (such as El Arco, described above), this is where the Baja coast peters out. You’ll see craggy white rocks jutting out to the ocean, and magnificent dark waters. This area is not good for swimming, so avoid plunging in.

Medano Beach: A spectacular long stretch of white sand, Medano is the most popular swimming beach in Cabo San Lucas, and extends to Villa del Palmar. So, expect it to be busy and rife with tourists, but you can find some more “me” space during the off season. This is a good spot to pick if you want water sports like jet skiing, kayaking and parasailing. Also, expect a lot of vendor hawking and jewelry peddling, so if you’re going with the family you may want to warn them to steer clear of the insistent salesmen.

Bahia de Cabo San Lucas: This is a sheltered harbor, and ideal for fishing buffs. While several hotels do exist in the area, it is the cape’s hub for water sports. The Cabo Pulmo Marine Park is also in the immediate vicinity, and the area is well known for marlins.
