New York City is famously recognized as the City That Never Sleeps and for good reason when a fun filled city has so much to do. Even if you’ll always have an abundance of fine dining and entertainment options, it is always nice to get a breath of fresh air away from the city congestion. (Of not only air, but people!) New York cools down along with the temperatures in search of fall weekend getaways to observe the transformative landscapes. New York City is surrounded by fun fall getaways; enough that you can trade your swimsuit and flip flops for a pea-coat and boots. (And you’ll do this willingly!)

Oheka Castle: Huntington, New York (Long Island): At one point in history, Long Island represented the exotic playground of the rich and famous. Breathtaking mansions lined across the golden shoreline; filled with extravagant examples of fine architecture. A trip to the Oheka Castle will introduce you to a world of luxury; a mix of American style with European charm. Not only can you visit the premises, but you can sleep, party and even marry like royalty.

Fort Wadsworth: Staten Island, New York: One of the oldest structures in the United States is actually a part of New York City's five boroughs. Located in Staten Island, this structure has guarded New York City for over 200 years. It was used in the war of 1812 to protect New York Harbor from the British. It is one of the most important military sites in history. Currently, it is a national park area meant for visitors to explore the grounds. Make sure to look up for a perfect view of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

Brotherhood Winery: Washingtonville, New York: You don't have to go as far as Argentina or Spain for a good bottle of wine. New York City is close to divine wineries in Hudson Valley; located in upstate New York. Plan a trip to America's oldest winery; where quiet vineyards invite you to unwind and enjoy the simple sights. There are underground cellar tours and tastings and even purchase your own bottles of merlot or chardonnay. There is nothing like saying you bought the perfect bottle of wine at the closest vineyard to New York City.

Kaaterskill Falls: Catskills Region, New York: If you're looking for a place of solitude where you can enjoy the sounds of a soft cascading waterfall, without heading far North to Niagara Falls, there is a closer option. Kaaterskill Falls is located in the Catskill Mountains; a region of New York filled with prominent landscapes and attractions. It is literally quite a hike to reach this location of tranquility; it can only be reached by an uphill trail. You'll get a view so beautiful you might like it better than the view from the top of the Empire State Building.

Sullivan County Farmer’s Market: Think food in New York City is overpriced? Do you think you’ll vomit if you eat one more hot dog? If you consider yourself a natural cook or simply enjoy the pleasure of eating green, why not make a trip out of visiting a Farmer’s Market? There are fabulous options from local maple products, botanical goods, organic fresh food and even handcrafted artisans. Beware: You will feel like you are in another country, not county! If you have an apartment in the city, invite your new city friends for a fresh meal!
