Bob Martin Sports Photography Retrospective at Quaglino's, London, IMG Cred: Chris Osburn

Experience a Variety of Bob Martin Images!

Now on view until September (and just in time for the Olympics), an retrospective exhibition of prints by award winning sports photographer Bob Martin presents an ideal opportunity to “get into a sporting spirit as London prepares to host this year’s Games, and is the fifth in an ongoing series of Quaglino’s collaborations with photographers.

Entitled “1000th: a Bob Martin retrospective,” the exhibition showcases a variety of images handpicked by the photographer, including previous Olympics, Paralympics and sporting events from around the globe. Martin is known for specializing in shooting action, graphic and editorial pictures. And since his 30-year career began, he's managed to photograph every single major sporting event including the last 13 Summer and Winter Olympics. Having shot sporting heroes such as Tiger Woods, Usain Bolt and Venus and Serena Williams, his photos have become famous for capturing the emotions and winning actions of world class athletes as well as the mood and atmosphere of great athletic moments.

Over the decades, Martin has been recognized with more than 50 national and international awards. He is a three-time winner of the prestigious British Sports Photographer of the Year. Most recently, he won Illustrated Book of the Year in the British Sports Book Awards 2012, and first place in the Sports Action category at the US based NPPA’s (National Press Photographer’s Association) Best of Photojournalism 2012 Awards.

For 1000th, the images have been handpicked by the photographer and feature stunning shots of great sporting events and numerous sporting heroes from around the world: a great compliment to the sporting vibe in London this summer.

The thrill of victory, the agony of the defeat, personal triumph, anguish, determination, dedication, jubilation, the ups and the downs … everything you'd expect to see is here in Martin's work, along with all the vibrant colors and drama associated with great sporting events.

The exhibition is on view in the bar at Quaglino’s. Since it opened in 1929, the upscale restaurant has been a dining destination for royalty, rock stars and high society alike. It offers an extensive brasserie-inspired menu and specializes in fresh crustacea and platters of fruits de mer. The art-deco inspired dining room features a sweeping central staircase and eight decorated columns, and the space also features a buzzing mezzanine bar and two private dining rooms.

But, if you just want to pop in for an inspiring browse of Martin's work or to grab a quick drink at the handsome bar, you'll still be made to feel welcome.

Quaglino’s is located at 16 Bury Street, SW1Y 6AJ. Visit quaglinos-restaurant.co.uk for more details.
