Photographic NYC: Iconic Architecture in NYC, Flickr: michaelkuhnphotos

Main Public Library Reading Room

Good ole New York City is famous for its dazzling skyline and 24/7 lifestyle. Yet, if we look closer to the buildings that create this large city, what do we find? There is such a variety of architecture, from old classic installations to shiny and modern structures. Tourists or specialty photographers will fall in love with snapping away in a city so nice, you’ve got to look at it twice.

NYPL: Main Public Library Reading Room:
We all know this is the city that never sleeps, but imagine finding the one beautiful spot where quiet is recognized. Libraries are sacred ground, for the lovers of good books, or general studying. Upon entering the iconic library, you’ll note the two lions that guard the entrance. The Rose Reading room simply takes your breath away, from its large size, the linear-and-angled old work desks and the large sunlit windows. Take a look up for some serious inspiration, bronze crown molding and a painting of dreamy clouds. It's photographic and awe inspiring in such a busy city.

The New Yorker Hotel: Art Deco was a huge movement in the 1920s-1930s New York City, with buildings rising up faster than a New York minute. Situated in the heart of Midtown Manhattan is the iconic New Yorker Hotel. It is recognized for its bright red sign: New Yorker, which is important to the New York skyline. Its claim to fame was its fashionable guests that adored the New Yorker, especially in the 40's-50's. Past guests included Muhammad Ali and even Fidel Castro. American inventor Nikola Tesla spent the last ten years of his life living in the hotel, where he also died.

Flatiron Building: Famous in design, the Flatiron building gets its name from resembling a cast-iron clothes iron. Built in the early 20th century, it was one of New York City's tallest skyscrapers before the Empire State Building. It is a part of New York's structure, dividing Broadway and Fifth Avenue. If you’re lucky enough to get inside, it has an optimal view looking up towards Fifth Avenue and the Empire State Building.

Brooklyn Rowhouses: Brownstones became popular outside of New York City as a popular building material. It also became a beautiful structure, appreciated especially in modern day. It identifies urban private residences in Brooklyn neighborhoods like Park Slope, Fort Greene and Brooklyn Heights. They are often in a row with their high grand entrances, giving a photographer a great perspective, linear shot.

Chrysler Building: Often, New Yorkers joke the Chrysler Building is unappreciated, since it only got a chance to be the tallest building in the world for almost a year. Right after its construction, it was surpassed in height by the Empire State Building. Yet, locals and tourists appreciate its lovely, silver art deco design that is unlike any other structure.
